If you’re staying on or around our campuses over the Christmas vacation, you’ll need to know which services and facilities are open. 

Autumn term ends on Friday 16 December 2022 and Spring term begins on Monday 9 January 2023.  Between those dates is the Christmas vacation, when services may be reduced. For part of that time period the University will actually close: 

The University (all campuses, buildings and services except student halls and campus security) will close on Thursday 22 December 2022 and re-open Tuesday 3 January 2023. During this time, questions will not be replied to in Advice Zone Online.  

Outside of the closure dates, but during the vacation, the following applies: 

All Campuses 

• Advice Zones are open Monday 19 December to Thursday 22 December – 8.30 to 4.30.Closed from Friday 23 December including Monday 2 January. Reopen Tuesday 3 January – 8.30 to 4.30 

• USW Library  

• Study Skills - Limited availability for bookable appointments between 19 December to 9 January, excluding closure period of 23 December – 3 January. For quick queries email [email protected] - answered until 16 December and then from 3 January. 

• Student Mentoring - Limited availability for bookable appointments between 19 December to 9 January, excluding closure period of 23 December – 3 January. 

• USW Careers - Closed 19 December – 3 January 

• USW Health Service - Closed from Thursday 15 December, reopens Tuesday 3 January. The NHS 111 Wales website provides a range of information on health conditions and illnesses, a symptom checker and guidance on who you can contact for the right care.

• IT Services - Reduced hours 8.30 am-5.30 pm, Monday 19 December – Thursday 22 December and reopen Tuesday 3 January. Reduced hours 8.30 am- 5.30 pm Tuesday 3 January- Friday 6 January.  Normal hours resume Monday 9 January. 

• Academic Registry Services  - Reduced service - Monday 19 December to Thursday 22 December – 8.30 to 4.30. Contact via Advice Zone Online or telephone: 01443 483348. Closed from Friday 23 December and reopen Tuesday 3 January. 

The number of student support appointments available may be reduced during the vacation. 

Treforest Campus 

• USW Print and Design – Closed 23 December – 3 January 

• FitZone  - Monday 19 – Thursday 22 8am to 4pm. Closed Friday 23 – Monday 2 Jan 2023. Reopens Tuesday 3 Jan – 7:45am to 10pm. 

• Immigration and International  Student Advice – Closed 23 December – 3 January 

• Students’ Union 

• USW Sport Park - Closed 23 December – 3 January
