IT Services – Office 365 – Phase 3

To make sure you get the most out of the Microsoft Office platform, IT Services are working closely with Microsoft to bring you Phase 3 of the Office 365 Roadmap.

We have recently completed Phase 2, where we migrated student accounts into the Microsoft environment and released our online Microsoft training for staff and students.

To support our blended learning approach, we have prioritised our efforts around the Microsoft Teams platform, which will be available to all students by September.

Microsoft Teams Platform

Teams is a platform used primarily for communication and collaboration, and facilitates video calling and group chat, among other useful features. Teams will enable students to engage in:

  • 1-1 and group chat - send instant messages within a team
  • Collaborate - work with your peers in real-time enabling you to edit documents and discuss ideas collaboratively
  • Share - your screen, PowerPoint presentation
  • Make audio calls - with an individual audio call or with a group
  • Create online virtual meetings

Students will also be able to integrate directly with all Office 365 applications, making it easy to communicate and collaborate securely wherever you are.

Please note, Microsoft Teams will not replace Blackboard; instead it is to enable improved collaboration opportunities.

Improving your Learning Experience

We are already exploring the potential of the Office 365 platform for new and exciting ways to improve our working, teaching and learning practices; the diagram below illustrates the roll out plan for this current Phase.

Support Materials

We will be releasing support materials as part of our awareness raising campaign prior to releasing these new features and enhancements. In the meantime, please take a look at the updated Free Microsoft accredited training we have arranged in conjunction with Microsoft.
