Coronavirus testing facility to be based on Treforest campus

A new NHS testing facility is opening on Treforest Campus today, as USW continues to support the Welsh Government’s efforts to control the spread of coronavirus.

Based on the student car park, it is part of a Welsh Government agreement with the UK Government to create 12 Local Testing Sites (LTS) in Wales, and to increase testing capacity.

Testing has to be booked via the NHS and will only be available  for those with coronavirus symptoms – a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. The site is being operated in partnership with Mitie and will offer self-administered tests.

The Treforest facility is among the first tranche of local testing sites that will be rolled out by next month, and will be based near universities across Wales, including USW, Cardiff, Swansea, and Bangor.

Each of these new Local Testing Sites will provide access to testing for both students and the local population.

Further advice on what to do it you develop coronavirus symptoms is available on the Track and Trace web page.
