Changing guidance for face coverings

Today the Welsh Government has announced that it will be mandatory to wear face coverings in shops and other indoor public spaces from Monday (14 September).

In line with this updated guidance, we will now be making it mandatory for face coverings to be worn indoors at all of our sites from Monday 14 September (Cardiff, Glyntaff, Newport, Treforest and the Sport Park). They can be removed in teaching spaces if required, where 2m social distancing is in place, and where PPE hasn’t been deemed mandatory for a specific task.

New guidance for groups meeting indoors

Welsh Government has today also announced that the rules on the number of people that can meet indoors has also changed. No more than six people from an extended household can meet indoors from Monday 14 September. The new restrictions will apply in pubs and restaurants, as well as in people’s homes. Social distancing remains at 2m in Wales. Up to 30 people can meet outdoors.

Additional advice for Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr Tydfil

Yesterday evening, the local authorities in the Rhondda Cynon Taff county borough (where our Glyntaff and Treforest campuses and Sport Park are based) and Merthyr Tydfil county borough made several requests to local residents, to try and help prevent the areas from going into local lockdown.

This included asking residents to only use public transport for essential purposes, which they have advised means people can still use it to travel to work and education.

We would like to reassure you that your safety remains our main priority and we have a wide range of guidelines in place to help keep all of our students and staff, as well as the local community as safe as possible.

We will continue to review and operate within the latest guidance. You can read more about the current Welsh Government guidelines here.

Please note, off-campus students who are studying with a partner college should check guidance and communication from their college, about local attendance, assessment and teaching arrangements.
