Pontypridd Campus Parking

September 28, 2018

The demand for car parking at the University is always at a peak during the first weeks of the autumn term, however, between our Treforest and Glyntaff campuses we are able to park all cars that arrive at the University.

Thursdays are one of our busiest days for parking and the traffic delays from the A470 are caused by the amount of traffic heading towards the university plus the refuse collection that goes through at the same time. We don’t see the same queuing on any other days in the week when we have the same number of cars and we are working with RCT council to change the times of the refuse collections to try and avoid the queues.

In addition, many students may not know classmates to arrange shared travel or haven’t worked out public transport options and this may add to parking pressure.

The University has also been working to meet demand and speed up the car parking process and has:
  • worked with RCT council to ensure there are currently no roadworks affecting access to the Treforest and Glyntaff campuses
  • installed new barriers with Automatic Number Plate Recognition which have improved the speed of entry and exit to the car parks
  • removed avoidable scheduling peaks in the timetable
  • re-gravelled the lower car park surface at Glyntaff
  • provided more security officers to help with parking student vehicles
Reducing demand on car parking

If you are able to take public transport or cycle in, do this as an alternative even if it is just for a short time. Consider car sharing – use Marketplace on UniLife to advertise or find car shares with other students. Remember that wherever you park, please respect other drivers and local residents, and park legally at all times.
