Library open at Treforest

Edited 1:30pm on 21/02/14 with updated information.

LSC building

The LSC building contains first-class library facilities, learning spaces and a computer lab and is the new home of the Student Money Advice Team, Careers and Employability Service, GO Wales and the Education Drop-in Centre.

The entrance to the building will be back where it used to be before refurbishment started, on the side of the building facing G Block’s labs, just off Central Avenue.

In the LSC building, you will find

  • Interview Rooms for your appointments with
    • Information Librarians
    • Education Drop-in Centre / Study Skills Tutors
    • Careers Advisers
    • Student Money Advisers
    • GO Wales
  • A Disability and Dyslexia Resource Room. However, Disability and Dyslexia Advisers will remain based in Ferndale. The Disability and Dyslexia Service is not moving.
  • 'The Library Kiosk’ – a new café on the ground floor of the building
  • Dedicated room for silent study
  • Training Room, used for a wide range of workshops and Grad Edge events such as employer presentations
  • Social learning spaces suitable for group work
  • Bookable group study rooms (bookings can be made via Connect2 through the library website)
  • A telephone booth, so students can use their mobile phones in privacy without disturbing others
  • Books, of course, and access to e-resources! All books, including journals and the law collection, are on the first floor of the building

Cynon Building – and future campus developments

Cynon Building, the old home of Student Services, will be demolished shortly. The University is currently working on plans to replace it with a new building designed to accommodate the Centre for Automotive and Power System Engineering Department (CAPSE). This is part of a plan to build two new buildings – the other is a new building for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Department (AME).

Proposed new developments on the Treforest campus

The new AME extension will accommodate teaching facilities for an additional 112 undergraduate students and 23 staff, and the CAPSE building will provide a 24hr research facility for 20 students and staff.
