Update about ticket inspections and penalties on the trains

May 28, 2012

The University has been informed that, during the next few weeks, additional revenue protection staff will be working throughout the local rail network.

The last time Arriva Trains Wales used the same enforcement organisation, some students have been issued with penalties of £150-£1000.

We’d like to ask students to ensure you buy a ticket before you board any train. Please be advised that:

  • You must have a valid ticket before stepping on a train. The only exception is if no ticket office or working ticket machine is at the station of your departure. Arriva Trains Wales keeps their staff updated on a very frequent basis about broken ticket machines or unstaffed stations.
  • You must not board a train expecting to buy a ticket on-board if you can obtain a ticket at your station of departure.
  • Please be at the stations with time to spare, as there could be queues.

Taking these steps will help you avoid any stressful encounters with revenue protection staff, and/or prosecution through civil courts.
