Robbery in Treforest: police appeal

January 19, 2012

South Wales Police are investigating a robbery which occurred at Queen Street, Treforest, approximately 6.15pm on Monday 16th January 2012.

Officers are appealing for information after a 22 year-old overseas student was assaulted and robbed of a laptop he was carrying, on January 16th, in Treforest.

At around 6.15pm, the student – from China – was walking along Queen Street to his home in nearby Wood Road, and was approached by two young males.

One of them grabbed the student by the throat whilst the other hit him to the face.

They stole the rucksack he was carrying, and made off in what has been described as a small dark vehicle which was parked on Queen Street, heading towards Old Park Terrace.

The rucksack contained a distinctive black ‘Thinkpad X301’ laptop, which was configured for the Chinese language.

Detective Constable Jeff Davies said: “This was a cowardly attack which should have no true reflection upon what is renowned as a friendly and accommodating community for overseas students.

“We are providing the victim who sustained minor injuries with our full support.

“The lap top which was stolen is in Chinese so almost certainly won’t be of use to those who took it.

“I’m appealing for anyone who may have seen the distinctive Chinese laptop, which may have even been dumped somewhere by now, to come forward.

“Or, anyone who was on Queen Street at around 6pm on Monday may recall seeing two males acting suspiciously. If you can, then we want to hear from them,” he added.

One of the males has been described as being white, around 20 years-old, well built and clean shaven with curly brown hair.

Anyone with information can call Porth CID via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
