Rocketry Society Launch

Event Date November 15, 2018 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Location – G219, Treforest Campus

An expert in rocket science is launching a new Rocketry Society at the University of South Wales.

Dr Phil Charlesworth will be the speaker at the project launch.

He was inspired to follow a career in aerospace by watching the moon landing as a child. His interest in space and satellites led him to the research arm of Airbus where, among other things, he worked on next-generation military satellites and solar aircraft.

In his spare time, he is an enthusiastic amateur rocketeer, designing and building his own rockets. He chairs the only amateur rocketry club in Wales. He is the safety and technical adviser for UKRoC, the UK component of a schools rocketry competition that runs across the UK, USA, France, and Japan.

Dr Charlesworth will give a talk – More Smoke and Noise: Getting Started in Amateur Rocketry at the launch.

The project is being run by the Department of Electrical and Electronics and funded by the School of Engineering.
